BERRY POMEROY CASTLE
Reputed to be one of the most haunted castles in England, Berry Pomeroy Castle lies in a beautiful deep wooded valley on the outskirts of the village of Berry Pomeroy, just a short drive from the centre of Totnes.
Built in the 15th century by the Pomeroy family and sold to the Seymour family in 1547.
The Seymour family embarked on a massive building programme to transform it into one of the finest mansions in South West England, but was abandoned in approx 1690.
The castle is presently owned by the Duke of Somerset and is administered by English Heritage.
Open from April to October.

Paignton Zoo has to be one of the top zoo's in the country. 80 acres of the most fascinating animals and plants split into several areas of different "climates" - Desert, Forest, Tropics, Savannah and the Monkey "house" is a revelation.
Paignton Zoo Environmental Park is an educational, scientific and conservation charity dedicated to global wildlife heritage and the respect of plants and animals.
A lazy day wandering around the zoo, a ride on the miniature train around the lake, close encounters with lions, tigers, rhinos, elephants, giraffes, BIG snakes and many other fascinating animals, finishing off with a lovely meal or just a coffee at the restaurant and a stroll around the zoo shop. An excellent day.

TOTNES MUSEUM
Totnes Museum is situated at the top of Fore Street, just below the East Gate Arch. Built as a merchants house for the Kelland family in 1575 this magnificent half timbered house is the perfect setting for the museum.
Extensively renovated, the museum has 13 rooms on 3 floors and has collections dating from 5000 BC.

THE NEW TOTNES CHILDRENS PLAY GALLEON
The new galleon on Steamer Quay Road was recently opened.
This large wooden play galleon, over 7m long, replaces the previous smaller galleon which had become unsafe.
Situated by the river, next to the riverside café and the caravan park, the galleon is specifically built for climbing and exploration and has disabled access.

DARTMOOR OTTER SANCTUARY & BUCKFAST BUTTERFLIES
An excellent day out whatever the weather. The otters at the sanctuary live as near as possible in a natural environment, also see new butterflies emerging in tropical surroundings and otters swimming underwater in specially built glass enclosures. The best times to see the otters is at feeding times which are 11.30am, 2.oopm and 4.00pm.

DARTINGTON HALL
Dartington Hall is a 1200 acre estate on the outskirts of Totnes. Originally bought by Leonard and Dorothy Elmhirst who dreamed of turning it into a base for an experiment in rural regeneration.
Dartington Hall is a beautiful place with the River Dart flowing nearby. The arched entrance leads into the courtyard with the medieval Great Hall (see picture) directly to the front. Dartington Hall is also well known for it's 25 acres of Grade 2 listed grounds and gardens, which are free to walk around and are open all year, part of which include The Great Lawn, The Tiltyard, 500 year old Spanish Chestnut trees, Azalea Dell and Spring Walk. Also in the gardens is a sculpture by Henry Moore. A new addition to the gardens is a bridge by artist Peter Randall Page.
Other attractions include the Barn Cinema, entrance is under the arch, High Cross House, The White Hart pub/restaurant next to the Great Hall and the Roundhouse Cafe.

Totnes to Dartmouth River Cruise.
Board the vessel at Steamer Quay and enjoy a relaxing cruise down the River Dart to Dartmouth.
A very informative onboard commentary gives the passengers an insight of the river including the abundant wildlife, cormorants, Kingfishers and sometimes seals.
The cruise passes the beautiful villages of Stoke Gabriel, Dittisham and Galmpton and at one stage passes the estate of the late Agatha Christie.

DARTINGTON CIDER PRESS CENTRE - SHOPS AT DARTINGTON
Part of the Dartington Hall Estate, this excellent shopping centre is approximately 2 miles from Totnes.
Based around a grade II listed building originally known as Shinners Bridge House, the complex boasts many fine shops selling everything from beautiful glassware and crafts to fashion and toys.

TOTNES RARE BREEDS FARM
Totnes Rare Breeds Farm and Garden Cafe is a family run non profit making attraction and aims to preserve endangered species of farm animals and British wildlife. Opened in 2001 it has grown into one of the most popular attractions in the area and was awarded South West Tourism's Silver Excellence Award
Situated next to South Devon Railway's Totnes station, the Rare Breeds Farm offers visitors a up close and hands on experience for all ages. See and feed Red Squirrels, Pygmy goats, Hedgehogs and small pigs to name but a few.
The farm also has a small animal enclosure where you can sit all sorts of small animals on your lap and also Eagle owls, Barn owls, Tawny owls and several more birds.

CANOE ADVENTURES
Active fun on the tidal River Dart for all ages, paddling 12 seater "Voyager" canoes. Guided by a steersman with all canoe equipment provided. Canoe outings are normally 4 - 5 hours which include picnic and ice-cream stops. Hire "By the Seat" for families, couples or individuals or "By the Boat" for larger groups.
Open all year round and operating from the slipway on Bow Creek, beside the Maltsters Arms at Tuckenhay - approx 4 miles from Totnes. Times vary due to the tide.
Ideal for families and children, birdwatchers, wildlife enthusiasts, or for people who just want to gently try canoeing on the Dart. Bring your own picnic or BBQ's by arrangement.
